Homicide of Cody Oller

Crime Stoppers Featured Case #18-07
 
The Portland Police Bureau, in partnership with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, is asking for the public's help to solve a homicide that occurred at Northeast Portland’s Fernhill Park.

On January 8, 2018, at 9:32 p.m., North Precinct officers responded to the report of gunfire at Fernhill Park, located in the 6000 block of Northeast 37th Avenue. Officers arrived in the area and found 25-year-old Cody Bennett Oller deceased. The Oregon State Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy and determined that Oller’s death was the result of a gunshot wound. Oller was living in the Portland area but was originally from Kansas.

At this point in the investigation, there is no suspect information in this case.

Fire at Courtesy Inn Hotel
December 27, 2017

Crime Stoppers Featured Case #18-18
 
The Portland Police Bureau, in partnership with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, is asking for the public's help to identify a suspect in a hotel arson.

On December 27, 2017, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Portland Fire & Rescue and Portland Police responded to the Courtesy Inn Motel, located at 11324 Northeast Sandy Boulevard, on the report of a fire at the motel.

During the investigation, fire investigators learned that the suspect poured gasoline around a parked car and a motel room door, igniting a fire, and leaving the area. Investigators reviewed area surveillance video and located images of the suspect, which are being released to the public to aid in this investigation.

The suspect is described as an older white male, large physical frame, wearing a two-toned sweatshirt or jacket, a baseball cap, and a small ponytail sticking out the back of the hat.

Homicide of Kacey Platt

Crime Stoppers Featured Case #18-03
 
The Portland Police Bureau, in partnership with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, is asking for the public’s help to solve a 2017 homicide.

On Tuesday November 28, 2017, at 11:03 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to the report of a shooting and car crash north of Southeast Stark Street on Southeast 157th Avenue.

As officers responded to the area of the reported shooting and crash, multiple people contacted 9-1-1 and reported hearing gunfire. When officers arrived on scene, they located a white SUV that had been involved in a crash. Officers approached the SUV and located 33-year-old Kacey Adam Platt suffering from traumatic injuries. Emergency medical responders arrived at the SUV and determined that Platt was deceased. The Oregon State Medical Examiner later determined that Platt died of a gunshot wound.

As officers contacted witnesses in the area of the shooting and crash, additional officers searched the neighborhood with K9 teams for the suspects involved in this shooting. No suspects were located as a result of the neighborhood search.

Bank Robbery at Albina Community Bank

Crime Stoppers Featured Case #18-01
 
The Portland Police Bureau and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, in partnership with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, is asking for the public’s help to locate a suspect wanted for robbing a Northeast Portland bank.

On Monday, November 27, 2017, at 11:03 a.m., the suspect entered the Albina Community Bank, located at 2002 Northeast Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard, and demanded money while brandishing a knife.  After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect left the bank without incident.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, in his mid-30s, five feet three inches tall, 120 pounds, wearing a dark over light gray hooded sweatshirt, black backpack, and armed with a knife.

Homicide of Desmond Garrett

Crime Stoppers Featured Case #18-02
 
The Portland Police Bureau, in partnership with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, is asking for the public's help to solve a 2017 homicide.
 
On September 7, 2017, at 10:21 p.m., Portland Police Central Precinct officers responded to Northwest 5th Avenue and Northwest Everett Street on the report of a shooting. As officers were responding to the scene, callers to 9-1-1 reported a car crash also occurred at the same intersection.
 
Officers and medical personnel arrived and located 40-year-old Desmond Antonio Garrett, also known as "Munchie," inside a white Mercury sedan and determined that he was deceased. The Oregon State Medical Examiner later determined that Garrett died after suffering a gunshot wound.

Based on information learned at the scene, investigators believe that after Garrett was shot, he crashed into a power box and an occupied, parked vehicle. Evidence of a shooting was found on Northwest 6th Avenue between Flanders and Everett Streets.

There are no suspects in the shooting and no known motive.

Crime Stoppers Featured Case #17-18 - Homicide

 

The Portland Police Bureau, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, is asking for the public's help to solve a Southeast Portland homicide.

 

On Saturday April 15, 2017, at 12:41 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to the area of 128th Avenue and East Burnside Street on the report of gunfire and one person down on the ground.

 

Officers arrived on the east side of Northeast 128th Avenue, at an entrance to the Menlo Park Elementary School recreation field, where they located the victim, 38-year-old Larry Edwin Van Dolah Jr. of St. Helens, Oregon, suffering from gunshot wounds. Medical personnel arrived and confirmed the man was deceased.

 

Preliminary information indicates that the suspects are three black males, ages 16 to 20 years old, all wearing hooded sweatshirts. Two of the suspects were wearing blue jeans while the third was wearing darl-colored sweatpants. They were last seen crossing East Burnside Street towards Southeast 129th Avenue.

 

Neighborhood surveillance video captured the three suspects walking in the area. A witness was able to provide a description on one of the three suspects to a Forensic Sketch Artist, who developed a sketch of the person.

 

Both images are being released publicly to aid in this investigation.

 



Homicide of Eddie Wallace
January 20, 2017

Crime Stoppers Featured Case #17-02
 
The Gresham Police Department, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, is asking for the public's help to solve a January 2017 homicide.

On January 20, 2017, at approximately 4:30 a.m., Gresham Police Department officers responded to a residential alarm at 83 Southeast 176th Place. Upon arrival, officers found evidence of forced entry into the home and inside found 46-year-old Eddie Laroy Wallace dead of an apparent gunshot wound. Further investigation found that Wallace was the victim of a homicide.

There were no witnesses to the homicide and there is no suspect information at this time.

Homicide of Merrilee Cooley
January 05, 2017

Crime Stoppers Featured Case #17-03
 
The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, is asking for the public's help to solve the homicide of Merrilee Cooley.

68-year-old Merrilee Bonnie Cooley of Johnson City was last seen by her family on December 26, 2016. Two days later she was reported missing to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.

On January 5, 2017, the Milwaukie Police Department located Cooley's car, a black 2010 Kia Optima, in the parking lot of the Miramonte Lodge Apartments on Southeast McLoughlin Boulevard. In the trunk officers discovered the body of Merrilee Cooley. The Oregon State Medical Examiner determined that Cooley died of homicidal violence.

There is no suspect information at this time.

Homicide of Luccas McNeill
August 07, 2016

Crime Stoppers Featured Case #16-16
 
The Portland Police Bureau, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, is asking for the public’s help to solve an August 2016 homicide.

On Sunday August 7, 2016, at 11:54 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to the 2100 block of Northeast 81st Avenue after multiple reports of gunfire.

Officers arrived in the area and found 28-year-old Luccas Demetrius McNeill down in the street next to a vehicle. Medical personnel arrived and determined that McNeill was deceased. The Oregon State Medical Examiner determined that McNeill died of gunshot wounds. 

Evidence of gunfire was located at the scene and witnesses described hearing a car speed away after hearing the gunfire.

McNeill was working as a security guard at the time of his death, helping to support his mother and sister. A fund has been established to help support McNeill’s family. Information about the fund may be found by visiting https://www.gofundme.com/2mpt8ztg

Homicide of Gary Baechler

Crime Stoppers Featured Case #16-06
 
The Portland Police Bureau, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, is asking for the public's help to solve a homicide.

On Sunday February 28, 2016, at 5:06 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to a residence in the 6900 block of Southeast 110th Avenue on the report that an adult male that was unconscious, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Officers and medical personnel arrived and were directed to the victim inside a home. Medical personnel confirmed that he was deceased.

The next day, the Oregon Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy and determined that the victim, 48-year-old Gary Jay Baechler (pronounced “Beckler”), died of multiple gunshot wounds.

There is no suspect information in this case.
